Did you know that The Walt Disney Company registered an official Clan MacDuck/McDuck Tartan? They actually did this back in 1942, five years before the creation of Scrooge McDuck as a character. The company registered a yellow, red, and green pattern. It was used to sell war bonds during World War II.
Clan McDuck, a fictional Scottish clan of cartoon ducks, was created by American comic book author Carl Barks, who also created the character of Scrooge McDuck. In the world of Donald Duck, the McDucks are connected to the American Duck family through Hortense McDuck and Quackmore Duck’s marriage. Hortense and Quackmore are Donald and Della Duck’s parents, which means both Donald and Della have some Scottish ancestry.
The registration notes read as follows:
Ancient MacDuck, old colours, as worn by Scrooge MacDuck, uncle to the famous cartoon character Donald Duck and Great Uncle to Huey, Duey and Luey. Said to have been used by the US Government during World War II to promote the sale of war bonds.
The tartan was recorded prior to the launch of The Scottish Register of Tartans. Some more information on this MacDuck Tartan;
